Salem Community Schools Families,
Salem Community Schools and East Washington School Corporation are working together with the Washington County Health Department to slow the spread of COVID. Both Salem and East Washington in-person instruction will be closed Monday, Nov. 16th through Tuesday, Nov. 24th based on the recommendations of the Washington County Health Department. We will move to Remote Learning Instruction during this time. Individual student course work will be posted by their teachers to Google Classrooms by 9:00 am each day. Online Lions will continue as scheduled. Prosser students will continue to follow the Prosser schedule. Transportation will still be available for Prosser students.
All middle school athletics are postponed during the remote learning time. This means there will be no practices or games. Any other extracurricular activities outside of high school athletics will be postponed as well. The walking track at the high school will also be closed to the community. Please pay attention to our school web page, school app, Facebook, and Twitter for updates.
We are working with the Washington County Health Department to monitor the situation and the positivity rate of our county. The positivity rate will determine how we will return to instruction on Nov. 30th. We will know more by Nov. 25th and will update the community on that date.

This is a potential plan in the event the Washington County Health Department requires us to implement a hybrid model.

Students will be assigned work through Google Classroom
Students will be assigned work for 10-30 min for each content area
Teachers will not be available during the school day as they are helping in-person students
In-person learning will be similar to a traditional classroom with the changes listed below:
Changes will be made to classrooms to create more personal space (reduce furniture, spread out desks, define areas, etc.). Students will face the same direction in classrooms as much as possible.
Students will be required to immediately report to classrooms upon entering school and not allowed to congregate in the hallways
Meals can be picked up once a week. You must accurately fill out the form each week to do so. The meal pick up form will be posted weekly to the school website, school app, Facebook, and Twitter
Student attendance is required during school hours. Teachers will post an announcement to their Google Classroom each day with instructions on how virtual students should complete attendance
If your student is scheduled for in-person instruction they will be picked up by their bus on days they are assigned to attend school. Students who are assigned to virtual learning will not be taken to school on virtual learning days.
