At Salem Middle School, nine students got the opportunity to participate in The Greatest History Challenge, which is a national academic competition, specifically for middle school students. There is a broad range of historical questions ranging from national history to global history. Lisa Eager is the sponsor for these students.
“Students in each grade level qualify for nationals by completing a 30-question online quiz on the GHC website,” she said. “After a couple of weeks, a representative from GHC reached out saying which students made it to regionals.”
GHC is an out-of-school organization, so it didn’t require much planning for SMS students and faculty.
“GHC sent me a packet and it seemed like a fun opportunity,” said Eager.
SMS had nine students qualify for nationals and seven have decided to compete at the event in Orlando. The 6th grade students are Kenlee Hall, Madelyn Elrod, Jamie Burcham and Mia Wade. Seventh grade students are Maddox Wilson and EJ Bowman. Riley Jones is the only 8th grader.
“Mr. Foughty-Killion, Mrs. Hall, and I couldn’t be more proud and excited for our students,” said Eager.
Salem Community Schools wish these students good luck at nationals, which will be held at the end of May.
