Remote Learning

Salem School Families,

We look at multiple factors to determine whether we remain “in person” instruction or move to remote learning. If only small numbers of individuals are impacted and they can be quickly isolated we can continue traditional instruction. Factors that could necessitate a move to remote learning may include, substantial numbers of positive or quarantined students, teaching staff, custodial staff, food services staff and bus drivers. If we determine we cannot safely operate “in person” we will move to remote learning using digital convergence to educate students. As of Friday August 21, students and staff have tested positive at all three buildings. Based upon our current quarantine numbers and the recommendation of the Washington County Health Department and the Chief Medical Officer, ALL Salem Community Schools will move to remote learning for the next two weeks, August 24th until September 4th.

Due to these extenuating circumstances, we will open our Online Lions for K-12 enrollment until Monday August 24th at 3:30 pm. If you would like to join the program contact Mr. Skomp at or your building principals via email.

At this point, SHS Prosser students will ride the bus and attend like normal.

NOTE: Remote Learning will be facilitated by the student's regular classroom teachers for the two week period. Online Lions is our option for families who are not comfortable with sending their student back to in-person instruction for the semester.

At this time, all extra-curricular activities will continue as scheduled but will be closely monitored to maintain the safety of our student athletes.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate Covid and try to keep our students, staff and community healthy and safe.

Thank you,
Jon Acton

If you or your children need internet access, we have a few options during this time.
1.  Thanks to our internet provider, Mainstream Fiber Networks, there is now public wifi access available in two spots in Salem. This is 24/7 access. Choose the 1MSFNPublicWifi network. There is no password but you will need to accept the terms to gain access.
A. On N. Harrison street in front of SHS and the parking lot adjacent to the football field will enable you to connect from your car.
B. Near the Salem Public Library there is an office building across the street (the old Duke Energy building). This access also extends into the library parking lot.

2. For students with school issued Chromebooks, there are two places where you may access internet from your car. Your Chromebook should automatically connect to the internet.
A. The north parking lot at SHS near the football locker room closest to N. Harrison St.
B. The front parking lot at SMS by the main steps (facing Brock Creek).
C. The front parking lot at BSE betweent the office and the gym.

3. The Salem Public Library has published that they are providing free access during specific hours: The WiFi is available from 8am - 7pm each day of the week.

4. The Washington County Family YMCA also provides free wifi during their business hours.
